Zoom [PODCAST 17/30]

Since I’m doing interviews for the podcast and we’re living in a pandemic, I’m going to record zoom conversations with people. This also helps me interact with people all over the world.

Since I’m doing interviews for the podcast and we’re living in a pandemic, I’m going to record zoom conversations with people. This also helps me interact with people all over the world.

What’s the best way to record a zoom podcast call? What's the best way to get audio? What’s the best way to get video?

I don’t know the answers, but I will find out!

P.S.

I bought a microphone today!

After talking with a few people, Andrew Jennings suggested I check a new microphone from SHURE.

The MV7 is a dynamic, usb (with xlr capabilities) microphone that doesn’t break the bank, and I bought it today!

Gear [PODCAST 13-16/30]

Microphone, interphase, stands, and software.

I need to make decision on what to purchase for this.

Microphone, interface, stands, and software.

I need to make decisions on what to purchase.

Since I already have garage band on my computer and some microphone stands, I think the biggest decision is about the microphone.

Talked to my wife about having a $500 budget for this podcasting adventure, and things aren’t looking good!

There are, however, many options under $100.

Since I have rowdy kids at home, I’m looking to purchase a dynamic microphone instead of a condenser. Yes, the condenser would be better to pick up the nuances of my voice, but I think it will pick up more nuances of my children screaming and/or pooping.

What plug and play usb dynamic microphone would you recommend for a one person zoom podcasting interview setup?

One of my top contenders from my research is the MXL BCD-1 Dynamic Podcast Microphone

Anchor? Squarespace? Buzzsprout? Captivate? Podbean? Soundcloud? Simplecast?

For the sake of simplicity, it’s between anchor and squarespace.

Unless you all tell me otherwise (if you know something, please do)!

Gimmick [PODCAST 8-11/30]

I need ideas! What could my gimmick be?

So that my podcast remains interesting to me and is separated from the pack, I want to incorporate some sort of a “gimmick” into it (maybe).

I need ideas! What could my gimmick be?

So that my podcast remains interesting to me and is separated from the pack, I want to incorporate some sort of a “gimmick” into it (maybe).

The show “Hot Ones'“ interviews guests while eating progressively hotter chicken wing sauces. They talk about interesting content while enduring an interesting challenge. I’ve found some of the best conversations I have with people are as we’re doing something else. What is that something else my guest could do with me to make the conversation almost secondary, but not so crazy that professionals refuse to show?

More Timing [PODCAST 7/30]

After hearing from you all, I’m going to stick with recording once a month. It just works better with my schedule, but I’m going to shoot for hour long interviews. With all the effort it takes to book a guest, I don’t want to be cut off at 30 minutes.

My bro in law mentioned breaking up long format interviews into multiple 10 minute posts. That seems totally doable, though I don’t listen to any podcasts like that. Personally, I feel like I would be annoyed with that format.

I’m starting to reach out to guests on my show, and I’ve secured some pretty amazing people—honestly, I think I’ll have some major credibility from my first episode.

The caliber of people I already have is already making me really nervous about my interview skills! Not to mention having the right tech skills for podcasting (but I’ll talk more about that in other posts).

Title [PODCAST 6/30]

I have a lot of titles for my podcast. I’ve bounced many ideas off of my friends in private—literally hundreds!

Thank you friends for the patience and kindness to act interested in all of them!

Thank you friends for the patience and kindness to act interested in all of them!

Usually, I would post these ideas on my blog before deciding, but I’m a little concerned about putting them on the internet prematurely. Someone could steal it! Not that many people are even paying attention to my podcast to be! :)

Maybe you can help me brainstorm some new ones?

Technology, Futurology, Theology, Interviews, Collapse, Leadership are some of the keywords for my podcast.

What would you title it? What title would interest you enough to click my my podcast?!
