BEN [HOMEMAKER 15]
I'm getting really excited about this project! The more time I invest, the more passionate I get.
I'm getting really excited about this project! The more time I invest, the more passionate I get. It's like Jesus said your heart is where your treasure is. I'm definitely investing time in this project. Saturday is going to be a day to get, what looks like, the last of my supplies!
Ben Jennings stopped by to talk about some ways I can position pallets for a base without having to get posts or sink things into the ground!
Making Plans [HOMEMAKER DAY 14]
Happy Pi day! Because I was in an amazing 8 hour session learning about the Gospel of John (taught by Tim Mackie from the Bible Project) I wasn't able to scavenge for more pallets.

However, last night, I stayed up until 2am look at raised huts and landed on a design for my structure. I still haven't decided on a roof, but I'm leaning towards a raised pallet platform house with a pointed roof. Also, unless something changes, I'm planning on using a ladder instead of a stair case.
I want the entrance to be open with an optional cover if the weather is too cold. It'd be cool if I could store a door under the structure and place it on during cold weather. I'm also open to a sliding, swinging or canvas door.
Scavenging [HOMEMAKER DAY 13]
Went to 3 places looking for pallets today.
Went to 3 places looking for pallets today.
Round 1: Linda Ho told me about pallets at a restaurant. Some people looked like they were using them and left before I could ask about taking them, so I didn't.
Round 2: Found some more at a restaurant, called the front desk and asked about pallets and got hung up on.
Round 3: Saw pallets behind, what looks like, an abandoned building. Took those pallets and put them in my car.
I'm going to keep collecting until I can get my building inclined people to come over and make a plan with me.
More Material [HOMEMAKER DAY 12]
I'm collecting more and more material, and making plans to use what I have. Here's an update of what's currently out there.

On Saturday, I want to borrow a truck to drive around and collect as much free stuff as possible.
One the fun parts about this challenge is that I don't know what the final result will look like.
Pallet Harvest [HOMEMAKER DAY 11]
After a week of uneventful blog posts, I actually have something to share. Also, I'm rested after flying on a plane with two year old and no longer think I'm in Michigan!

While in California, I found a bunch of craigslists posts for pallets, and collected a bunch of them today. Here's a video of the parking lot with the wood and some pictures of all the lumber collected. I've got some other large pieces in the backyard as well.
Since church planting, we've had a lot of construction projects hosted in our garage, so there's a bunch of leftover wood in there that I might take advantage of as well.
Boring Blog [HOMEMAKER DAY 9 & 10]
I just spent the last week in California and now I'm back in Michigan. Building a house from another state is not ideal and this blog has suffered because of it.
I just spent the last week in California and now I'm back in Michigan. Building a house from another state is not ideal and this blog has suffered because of it. For the last week, I've been basically looking at templates of pallet houses and for pallet locations like this:

It's not the most exciting thing to blog, so I'm excited to be back in Washington!
Here's one of the templates I'm looking at:
